Strong LG institutions essential for strengthening democracy: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday said that strong local government (LG) institutions in the country are essential for strengthening the democracy.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, Ahsan Iqbal said that during the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, the institutions in the country were destroyed.

Ahsan Iqbal said that the PTI government did not initiate any development projects and instead promoted the politics of hatred and division. He added that local government institutions were shut down during the PTI’s tenure.

Ahsan Iqbal further said that strong local government institutions are essential for strengthening democracy and added that the current government has fought legal battles in the courts for their restoration.
