Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaches Baku to attend Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations and hold key talks with President Ilham Aliyev on expanding bilateral cooperation.
BAKU (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reached Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, to attend the country’s Victory Day celebrations.
The visit comes at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev, as Azerbaijan marks the fifth anniversary of its Victory Day with official ceremonies and commemorations.
Upon his arrival at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, the Prime Minister was received by Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yaqub Eyyubov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Fariz Rzayev, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mueenuddin, and senior members of the diplomatic staff. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar is accompanying the prime minister on the two-day visit.
During his stay, PM Shehbaz Sharif will hold a bilateral meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation across multiple areas, including trade and investment, energy collaboration, defence partnerships, education exchanges, and regional connectivity. Both leaders will also review progress on existing agreements and explore new initiatives to bolster economic and strategic ties between Islamabad and Baku.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan share a longstanding relationship grounded in common faith, cultural heritage and mutual trust. The two countries have consistently supported each other on issues of national importance and maintain close cooperation within international and regional organisations such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), and the United Nations.
