New law will strengthen the capacity of security agencies to prevent terrorism
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2025.
According to a statement from the President’s House, the new law will strengthen the capacity of security agencies to prevent terrorism, ensuring transparency and accountability. The bill includes a three-year sunset clause to limit its duration, along with provisions for judicial oversight and protective measures.
Experts say this law is an important step in addressing Pakistan’s security challenges. Following President Zardari’s approval, the law is now officially in effect, and relevant agencies will begin its implementation.
It is worth noting that yesterday President Zardari also approved the Petroleum Amendment Bill 2025.
The amendment strengthens measures against smuggling and illegal petrol pumps, granting Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and Customs officials seizure powers. IT-based tracking of petroleum products has been introduced, and penalties for violations have been increased.
The law will also help modernize the petroleum sector, increase transparency, and make government actions against smuggling and tax evasion more effective.
