Supreme Court constitutes bench to hear proposed constitutional amendment

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court constituted a three-member bench to hear the petition against the proposed constitutional amendment.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa led bench comprising two other judges including Justice Naeem Afghan and Justice Shahid Bilal will hear the petition on October 17.

Abid Zubairi's advocate had filed a constitutional petition in the court.

The Registrar's office issued notices to Zubairi advocate.

According to the proposed amendments, a federal constitutional court would be established , which would take over the SC’s role in constitutional matters, with the Chief Justice appointed by the prime minister.

At a lower level, the proposed amendments aims to include the establishment of provincial constitutional courts that will mirror the federal structure. However, it will have separate chief justices for each provincial court.

It is to be recalled that earlier, the petition was returned with objections by the registrar's office.
