PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Saif asserted that higher judiciary was being paralysed under the pretext of constitutional amendment.

He criticised the government for staging a drama on constitutional amendment in Islamabad on Sunday night.

Saif highlighted that votes were begged for constitutional amendment but no-one was shown the draft.

He grilled the government for making a constitutional amendment a suspense, saying “is it constitutional amendment or details of Avenfield which are not being revealed.”

The PTI leader claimed that the constitution and law were being mocked and violated for personal interests. They were preparing to disrespect the sanctity of the Supreme Court.

He grilled the fake incumbent coalition government and their allies for pushing hard to get personal interests under the guise of amendment.

Barrister Saif insisted that incompetent government was attacking the Supreme Court and the PPP was supporting the government in this attack.

The Supreme Court would become a mere powerless luxurious building with the proposed amendment, Barrister Saif insisted.

it is pertinent to note that  the coalition government has summoned the National Assembly, Senate and federal cabinet on Monday (today) to table and pass the constitutional amendment which they failed on Sunday.

THE AMENDMENT BILL

The constitutional amendment bill related to the judiciary includes a proposal to increase the age of superannuation of Supreme Court judges to 68 years from 65 years, and that of high court judges from 62 years to 65 years.

The planned amendment will also change the procedure of appointment of judges to superior judiciary and merger of parliamentary committee on judiciary with Judicial Commission.

NUMBER GAME

The coalition government requires 224 votes or two-thirds majority in the lower house for approval of the constitutional amendment.

As for the Senate, the ruling party has to get support of 64 members. Currently, it has the support of 55 members.
