ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government has increased the budget of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) by 27 percent to help the poor and downtrodden.
It was revealed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb who presented the federal budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in National Assembly on Wednesday.
The government has earmarked a hefty amount of Rs593 billion for BISP, announced the finance minister during his budget speech.
“The coalition government is determined to help the poor segments of society with financial assistance,” said the finance minister while talking about the BISP.
The beneficiaries under the ‘Kafaalat Programme’ would be increased from 9.3 million to 10 million.

The amount of cash transfer would also be increased under the said programme to save the downtrodden from the effects of inflation.
A new programme titled ‘poverty graduation and skills development’ would also be introduced for the first time to improve the economic condition of the masses.
According to budget documents, one million needy students would be enrolled in the education scholarship programmes under the BISP.
It merits mention here that the total outlay of the budget for FY 2024-25 stands at Rs18,877 billion with Rs9,775 billion reserved for the interest payments.
