LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has continued crackdown on gas pilferers as the company disconnected gas connection of an international fast food chain over meter tampering in Lahore.

According to the details, SNGPL Lahore region's team checked the meter of the fast food chain after receiving information about tampering. The meter was sent to laboratory for testing where 100 percent meter tampering was proved.

Consequently, gas connection of the fast food chain was immediately disconnected by the regional team.

Meanwhile, action against various gas pilferers in various cities across the country were taken and connections disconnected.

As part of the recently launched crackdown against gas pilferers, SNGPL's regional teams conducted series of successful raids in different cities of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.

Following is the detail of actions taken in different cities/ regions:

Peshawar: Eight domestic connections were disconnected on direct use of gas; 12 illegal domestic connections were disconnected and two FIRs were lodged.

Rawalpindi: Eleven domestic connections were disconnected on direct use of gas and one was disconnected due to compressor use.

Mardan: Four fake domestic meters were disconnected while two commercial connections were also disconnected.

Sialkot: Eight domestic connections were disconnected on use of compressor, one due to commercial use and 12 others were disconnected due to illegal extensions.

Sargodha: Seventeen connections were disconnected due to theft by meter tempering, one due to direct use and nine due to illegal extension.

Gujranwala: Two connection were disconnected on meter tampering; one due to direct use; 24 on use of compressor and three on use of domestic connection for commercial purpose.

Gujrat: Eleven connections were disconnected due to illegal extension, one due to compressor use and one disconnected due to domestic to commercial use.

Islamabad: Eight connections were disconnected on direct use of gas.

Sahiwal: One connection was disconnected on use of compressor; three due to illegal extensions and 19 on meter tampering.

Faisalabad: Four connections were disconnected on use of compressor, 21 due to illegal extensions and 19 on meter tampering.

Lahore: Two domestic connection disconnected on use of compressor, two due to commercial use; three due to illegal extensions; one on illegal tapping and 34 due to meter tampering.

Bahawalpur: Twenty-five connection were disconnected on use of compressor, five due to illegal extensions and one due to meter tampering.

Multan: Seven domestic meters were disconnected on use of compressor, 14 due to illegal extensions and one due to commercial use.

Sheikhupura: Two domestic meters disconnected on use of compressor and 11 due to illegal extensions.

The authorities have filed applications in local police stations for lodging of FIRs against gas pilferers as per law.
