Saudi ministry issues directives about women pilgrims' Ihram

Riyadh: The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has defined three rules regarding proper Umrah dress for women.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said in a statement on social media site X (former Twitter): “The clothing should be wide and loose-fitting” and it should not have any decorative elements," it added.

The authorities also told that clothing should cover the entire body.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said that females are permitted to wear any clothing of their choice for pilgrimage of Umrah as long as these conditions are met while coming to Masjid al-Haram.

Last year, the kingdom allowed women to perform Umrah without a male guardian. The adviser of Hajj and Umrah services Ahmed Saleh Halabi said that it is now permissible for a woman to perform Hajj or Umrah without a mahram, accompanied by “trustworthy women or secure company to perform Hajj or Umrah. This is the view of the Maliki and Shafi’i scholars.”
