A major corruption scandal has rocked Pakistan’s cybercrime agency, with officers allegedly extorting millions from illegal call centres in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) — A shocking corruption scandal has come to light involving officers of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), revealing widespread extortion and abuse of power.
According to the agency’s investigation report, 15 illegal call centres in Rawalpindi were allegedly collecting around 15 million rupees per month. Additional Director Shehzad Haider’s team reportedly used a front man, Hasan Amir, to collect the money, accumulating 120 million rupees between September 2024 and April 2025.
The probe further revealed that Sub-Inspector Bilal allegedly fixed a monthly extortion of 800,000 rupees for a new call centre. In one case, an Islamabad call centre in Sector F-11 was raided, and SHO Mian Irfan reportedly closed a deal for 40 million rupees.
Sources said that in May 2025, Aamir Nazir was put in charge of the Rawalpindi office, with Deputy Director Nadeem Khan and Sub-Inspector Sarim Ali joining the team.
Deputy Director Salman Alvi was also part of the group, which continued the extortion, reportedly collecting 15 million rupees per month. Sub-Inspector Sarim used a front man, Mohiuddin, to handle collections.
During one raid, 14 Chinese nationals were arrested at a Rawalpindi call centre.
The report claims Sarim’s team contacted the wife of one detainee, who paid 8 million rupees for her husband’s release, while the remaining 12 million rupees were collected to free the other detainees. Sarim allegedly tortured the detainee and sent a video to his wife, demanding an additional 1 million rupees to fulfill legal requirements.
The total haul of 21 million rupees from the raid was reportedly divided among the officers: Sarim Ali received 1.7 million, Usman Basharat 1.4 million, Zaheer Abbas 1 million, Nadeem Khan took 2.7 million, and Aamir Nazir got 7 million, while 9.5 million was collected from Usman Basharat’s office by Deputy Director Nadeem.
FIA sources confirmed that teams have been formed to arrest the accused officers.
