KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Wednesday that the Sindh government is on full alert, and if no further rains occur, the situation will return to normal within a few hours.

In a statement, Memon said that in view of the recent rains and rising river levels, large-scale rescue and relief operations are underway. The situation in Karachi after the rains is gradually improving, though due to overflowing dams and heavy downpours, the Lyari and Malir rivers experienced flooding.

He added that high tides in the sea also delayed the drainage of rainwater, while heavy rains created hardships for residents in some low-lying areas. Weather forecasts have predicted another spell of rain within 24 to 48 hours. The Sindh government remains fully alert, and if no further rains occur, conditions will normalize within a few hours.

He stated that under the leadership of Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the city government, PDMA, and all relevant institutions are actively engaged.

The Sindh Information Minister said that over the past 24 hours, 4,881 people from flood-prone Katcha areas have been relocated to safe places, bringing the total number of relocated individuals to 146,492.

Memon further said that through 163 fixed and mobile health centers set up by the Sindh government, 5,296 people were provided medical assistance in the last 24 hours, with the overall number reaching 55,336.

He also informed that 11,078 livestock were shifted to safe areas in the past 24 hours, making a total of 400,018 animals relocated so far. Additionally, 58,166 animals received vaccination and treatment in the last 24 hours, while overall 1,032,991 livestock have been vaccinated and treated so far.
