ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A police officer injured during a protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has died while receiving treatment in the hospital.

According to police reports, Hamid Shah sustained severe injuries at the 26 Number Chungi location and was transferred to PIMS Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Islamabad police announced that the funeral prayers for the deceased officer will be held shortly at the police lines.

Abdul Hamid Shah had joined the Islamabad police in 1988 and was a resident of Abbottabad.

He was set to retire in just three months after completing his service.

On October 4, all routes leading to the Red Zone in Islamabad were blocked with containers in anticipation of the PTI's planned protest at D-Chowk.

The demonstrations led to intense clashes between protesters and police, with police resorting to shelling while demonstrators retaliated with stone-pelting, resulting in injuries to several officers.
