LONDON (Dunya News) - Visitors to Britain from 85 countries must obtain an electronic permit in advance of their trip or they will be barred from travelling, the UK interior ministry said.
According to British media reports, the government has implemented the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, which will apply to travelers from 85 countries, including the United States and Australia. Officials say the new system is aimed at strengthening and streamlining the UK’s immigration process.
Under the new rules, eligible travelers will be required to obtain an ETA before entering the country. The authorisation will allow visitors to stay in the UK for up to six months and will remain valid for two years or until the expiration of the holder’s passport, whichever comes first.
The ETA will be applicable for short-term visits such as tourism, business trips, or short-term study. However, reports suggest that the new system could create complications for individuals seeking to obtain a British passport, as well as for those holding dual nationality.
It is important to note that British and Irish citizens will not require an ETA or visa to enter or exit the country.
The UK government maintains that the new system will enhance border security while facilitating smoother entry procedures for legitimate travelers.
