A man in India brutally killed his estranged wife at a women’s hostel, took a selfie with her body, and shared it online before being arrested at the scene.
(Web Desk) – A shocking crime in India’s Tamil Nadu has sparked nationwide outrage after a man reportedly killed his estranged wife at a women’s hostel and took a selfie with her dead body before sharing it online.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Coimbatore, where the victim, Sripriya, worked at a private firm and had been living separately following marital disputes.
Police officials told India media that the suspect, identified as Balamurugan from Tirunelveli, arrived at the hostel concealing a sickle in his clothes. He requested to meet his wife, and soon after their conversation turned heated. In a violent outburst, he drew the sickle and repeatedly attacked her, resulting in her death at the scene.
Authorities reported that after carrying out the brutal killing, the suspect took a selfie with the victim’s body and uploaded it as his WhatsApp status, accusing her of “betrayal”. Reports from local media also stated that he appeared on Facebook Live showing the victim’s lifeless body. Panic and chaos immediately spread across the hostel premises.
Police arrived shortly after the incident. The suspect did not flee and instead waited for officers to arrive, after which he was arrested at the scene. The murder weapon was recovered, and further investigation revealed that Balamurugan suspected his wife of being in a relationship with another man.
Officials have recorded his statement and initiated a detailed investigation into the killing, which has drawn attention to rising cases of violence against women in the region.
