France sends police, military reinforcements to New Caledonia
(AFP) - France has enforced a state of emergency in New Caledonia. Hundreds of police and military reinforcements sent to restore order in the overseas territory of New Caledonia which has seen mass protests and riots over the past weeks that resulted in several deaths.
The deadly violence erupted over a French voting reform plan that indigenous Kanaks say will dilute their voice.
