LAHORE (Dunya Investigation Cell) - In the past two decades, the Israel-Palestine conflict witnessed a series of clashes, with the ongoing war exceeding all previous records in terms of brutality and deaths. Notably, the years 2014 and 2018 stand out as the darkest chapters in this long conflict.

In 2014, the conflict reached its deadliest point, resulting in a tragic toll of 2,402 deaths and 13,666 injuries. Among these casualties, 2,329 Palestinians and 73 Israelis lost their lives. The toll was particularly harrowing, with 11,231 Palestinians and 2,435 Israelis sustaining injuries. Among the deceased were 1,534 men, 372 children, 301 women, and 195 girls, while the injured included 6,289 men, 3,517 children, 3,538 women, and 322 girls.

Similarly, 2018 witnessed a grim toll with 318 people losing their lives in the conflict, including 300 Palestinians and 18 Israelis. The number of injured individuals reached a staggering 31,376, with 31,259 Palestinians and 117 Israelis affected.

According to documents released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, from January 2008 to September 2023, the Israel-Palestine conflict has resulted in a devastating toll. These documents reveal that during this period, 6,715 people lost their lives, and an alarming 158,867 individuals were injured. Among the deceased were 4,573 men, 1,181 children, 662 women, and 281 girls. The injured included 88,820 men, and 30,000 were injured including 114 children, 9,171 women, and 2,681 girls.

Geographically, 5,412 people lost their lives in Gaza, 1,145 in the West Bank, and 154 in the Israeli-occupied areas. Concerning injuries, 91,801 occurred in the West Bank, 63,041 in Gaza, and 4,025 in the territory occupied by Israel.

The report further reveals that from 2008 to September 2023, 6,407 Palestinians tragically lost their lives. These included 4,326 men, 1,162 children, 626 women, and 275 girls. This grim loss of life fluctuated annually, with the highest recorded in 2014 at 2,329 deaths and the lowest in 2020 at 30 deaths. The years in between saw 899 deaths in 2008, 1,166 in 2009, 95 in 2010, 124 in 2011, 260 in 2012, 39 in 2013, 2,329 in 2014, 174 in 2015, 109 in 2016, 77 in 2017, 300 in 2018, 138 in 2019, 30 in 2020, 349 in 2021, 191 in 2022, and 227 from January to September 2023. Notably, the majority of these losses occurred in Gaza (5,530), with 1,077 in the West Bank and 37 in the Israeli-occupied territories.

Similarly, 152,560 Palestinians suffered injuries over the past 16 years due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Among the injured were 83,723 men, 29,618 children, 8,953 women, and 2,653 girls. Out of these, 89,534 were injured in the West Bank, 62,935 in Gaza, and 91 in the territory occupied by Israel. These injuries occurred annually as follows: 2,325 in 2008, 6,401 in 2009, 1,572 in 2010, 2,143 in 2011, 4,677 in 2012, 3,992 in 2013, 17,533 in 2014, 14,639 in 2015, 3,464 in 2016, 8,447 in 2017, 31,259 in 2018, 15,491 in 2019, 2,581 in 2020, 19,183 in 2021, and 10,345 in 2022. Additionally, 8,508 Palestinians were injured from January to September 2023.

Turning to the Israeli side, the report states that 308 Israelis lost their lives from 2008 to 2023, including 247 men, 36 women, 19 boys, and 6 girls. The annual toll varied, with the highest recorded in 2014 at 88 deaths and the lowest in 2020 at 3 deaths. The years in between saw 33 deaths in 2008, 11 in 2009, 8 in 2010, 11 in 2011, 7 in 2012, 6 in 2013, 88 in 2014, 26 in 2015, 12 in 2016, 17 in 2017, 13 in 2018, 12 in 2019, 3 in 2020, 11 in 2021, 21 in 2022, and 29 from January to September 2023. Geographically, 138 Israelis lost their lives in the West Bank, 117 in the Israeli-occupied territories, and 52 in Gaza.

In addition to the fatalities, 6,307 Israelis were injured over the past 16 years. Among the injured were 5,977 men, 496 children, 218 women, and 28 girls. Of these, 3,934 were injured in the occupied territory of Israel, 2,267 in the West Bank, and 106 in the Gaza area. The yearly count of injuries ranged from 105 in 2020 to 2,708 in 2014, with varying numbers in between, including 819 in 2008, 112 in 2009, 177 in 2010, 120 in 2011, 571 in 2012, 151 in 2013, 2,708 in 2014, 313 in 2015, 210 in 2016, 157 in 2017, 117 in 2018, 123 in 2019, 105 in 2020, 168 in 2021, 252 in 2022, and 204 from January to September 2023.
