Qin Gang appointed new Chinese Foreign Minister

BEIJING (Web Desk) - Qin Gang, currently the Chinese ambassador to the United States, was appointed as the country’s new foreign minister (FM) on Friday, replacing Wang Yi.

Prior to this, he was also the vice foreign minister, and he also served as the ministry s spokesperson at the Chinese embassy in the United Kingdom.

Between 2014 and 2018, he was Xi s chief protocol officer.

Qin will return to Beijing from Washington after serving as China s 11th ambassador to the United States for 17 months.

In an essay published in the American bimonthly magazine National Interest, Qin gave a summary of China s foreign policy and reiterated that China-US relations were not a zero-sum game.
