ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his optimism about the revival of hockey in the country at a ceremony held to honour the Pakistan hockey team for their outstanding performance in Azlan Shah tournament. 

He commended the team for its remarkable display on the field, emphasising that their achievements have made the nation proud. 

The ceremony, attended by prominent figures including Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and former hockey players Shahbaz Senior, Samiullah, and Olympian Salahuddin. 

PM Shehbaz Sharif greeted the players of the hockey team and honoured them for their excellent performance. 

He stressed that the entire nation was celebrating their victory, highlighting that despite challenges, the team made it to the final. 

Reflecting on Pakistan's hockey performance over the past two decades, Prime Minister Shehbaz acknowledged that it had not been up to par. 

However, he assured the players that effective policies would be implemented promptly to address resource concerns. Minister Rana Mashood was designated to spearhead these efforts, ensuring that players would be provided with opportunities in various departments. 

PM Shehbaz Sharif distributed cash prizes among the players as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work. 

He reiterated his confidence in the resurgence of hockey in Pakistan, expressing his belief that with concerted efforts, the sport would regain its former glory. 

Pakistan made it to Azlan Shah hockey cup final but lost to Japan.
