Section 144 imposed in South Waziristan amid security concerns

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN (Dunya News) - Authorities have enforced Section 144 in the districts of Upper South Waziristan and Lower South Waziristan on Thursday, citing heightened security threats.
Officials said the restrictions are aimed at preserving public safety, maintaining law and order, and facilitating uninterrupted logistical operations of security personnel.
Deputy Commissioner Asmatullah Wazir confirmed that Section 144 has been enforced in the tehsils of Sarvekai and Sararogha in Upper South Waziristan from 6am to 6pm. During these hours, all movement will remain suspended, while markets and commercial centres will stay closed.
Key routes affected include Makin, Sararogha, Kot Kai, Spinkai Raghzai up to Nazar Khel, as well as the road stretching from Dargai Bridge through Madi Jan, Sheen Warsak, Moley Khan Sarai and Chagmalai.
Residents have been directed to halt their vehicles at least 50 metres before security checkpoints and ensure passengers disembark if instructed. Authorities warned that any violation would result in strict legal action.
In Lower South Waziristan, Deputy Commissioner Musarat Zaman announced similar restrictions in parts of Wana. The curfew, effective from 6am to 6pm, bans all non-essential movement.
Restricted areas include Wana, Tiarza Gate, Karb Kot, Tanai, Azizabad Chowk and the route leading to Dargai Bridge. Emergency travel will only be permitted with prior approval from security officials and verification of identification documents.
Officials urged residents to fully cooperate with security forces and avoid unnecessary travel. Markets and businesses will remain closed during the enforcement period.
The measures come amid worsening security conditions in the South Waziristan region, which has witnessed a surge in militant activity in recent months.
