Murad Ali Shah rejects calls for separate Karachi province

He says that a province can only be created if the provincial assembly passes a resolution with a two-thirds majority
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that some elements have once again raised the issue of making Karachi a separate province, but the city’s residents are not in favour of such a move.
Addressing a ceremony in Karachi on Sunday, he stated that a province can only be created if the provincial assembly passes a resolution with a two-thirds majority, adding that the constitutional procedure for forming a new province is the only correct way.
“It is neither my choice nor anyone else’s,” he said.
He noted that development work is underway in Karachi, adding that the administration had been given a 100-day challenge to construct a bridge.
He said that several accidents had occurred due to the absence of a proper crossing road.

Murad Ali Shah expressed confidence that the deputy mayor’s team would work collectively on the remaining projects.
He further announced that development projects worth Rs300 billion would be undertaken in Karachi this year.
The construction of a flyover in Malir would benefit residents, he said, adding that Shahrah-e-Bhutto up to Qayyumabad would be completed within the next four to six weeks.
Reiterating his stance, he said that Karachi’s residents do not support the creation of a new province.
Murad Ali Shah asserted that Sindh would remain united, adding that Sindh had played a key role in the creation of Pakistan by passing the resolution twice.
“If you think of dividing Sindh, you are not sincere with Pakistan,” he said.
