KARACHI (Dunya News) - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that he wanted to meet his leader Imran Khan, but no one listened to him, adding that when people are pushed against the wall, protest remains the only option.

Addressing a ceremony at the Sindh High Court Bar Association, the chief minister said that Imran Khan is fighting a battle for “real freedom.”

“My leader is in jail and he is the most popular leader in Pakistan. Even the Chief Justice of Pakistan is not willing to grant a meeting, nor has there been any response to my letter,” he said.

Sohail Afridi said they resort to protest politics only when no other option is left, noting that the constitution and law allow it.

He added that after becoming chief minister, he wrote letters to the Punjab chief minister and the Chief Justice.

He said that judges of the Islamabad High Court issued orders allowing him to meet Imran Khan, and three judges had given such directions, but a jail superintendent discarded those orders.

“This is not an insult to me; it is an insult to the judiciary and to the legal profession,” he remarked.

He expressed gratitude to all lawyers of the Sindh High Court Bar, saying he was pleased to present his views before them. He described the people of Sindh as brave, courageous and valiant.

Expressing concern, he said Sindhis have given space to all communities in their provincial capital and have big hearts that honour guests, but alleged that the Sindh government did not treat guests well and failed to respect the Ajrak and Sindhi cap.

Sohail Afridi said that until lawyers stand up, the judiciary would not be free.

Sindh High Court Bar President Haseeb Jamali presented the KP chief minister with a Sindhi Ajrak and cap.

Addressing the ceremony, Salman Akram Raja said that he felt as if he was in his own home. He said they speak of the constitution and law because their purpose is to protect fundamental rights.

“The Constitution says we can move freely on our land and that we can speak,” he added.

Salman Akram Raja said they stand with the families of missing persons in Balochistan and alleged that people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being displaced in the name of operation.
