ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The performance report of the National Assembly (lower house) for the year 2025 has come to light.
During 2025, the government maintained a clear edge in legislation in the National Assembly. A total of 42 government bills and 49 private members’ bills were presented, but only 31 laws were passed. Eleven adjournment motions were submitted, all of which were rejected.
Out of 6,694 starred questions submitted during the year, answers were received to only 1,442.
According to the report, 336 public attention notices were submitted, but the majority could not be taken up for discussion. In addition, only 53 calling attention notices were debated. Assembly sessions were frequently adjourned. A total of 33 privilege motions were submitted, of which six were referred to committees, nine were rejected, and 16 remain pending.
Under Rule 259, only 55 out of 295 motions became part of the agenda. A clear numerical imbalance in the House was also observed.
The report states that the opposition lagged behind in legislation. Of the 6,694 starred questions submitted during the year, only 1,442 received replies. While 1,395 questions were admitted, they lapsed due to the absence of replies, and 285 questions were either rejected or not submitted at all.
Throughout the year, the government carried out legislation largely according to its own priorities, while the opposition remained confined to slogans, protests, and speeches.
