Minister Talal Chaudhry says PTI-linked accounts run abroad create paid trends, target institutions, aid hostile narratives; government warns of action, citing evidence and foreign funding.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that PTI social media accounts are being used to manufacture trends.
Addressing a press conference in the federal capital, Talal Chaudhry stated that terrorist organizations are exploiting social media platforms. He said the government believes in freedom of expression, but certain elements are acting against national security.
He added that a malicious campaign is being run against state institutions on social media and that no compromise will be made on national sovereignty. According to him, PTI uses social media to promote a specific narrative.
The minister said that trends are created by paying for each tweet, stressing that freedom of expression has limits. He alleged that some companies auction and sell trends and hashtags.

Talal Chaudhry further claimed that PTI social media accounts are being operated from abroad, mainly from North America, Europe, and South Asia, and are used specifically to create trends.
He alleged that the same accounts generate trends in favor of the TTP, BLA, and Israel, adding that authorities have obtained substantial information and collected all evidence, including foreign funding transfers.
The minister warned that fake accounts operated by foreign companies are on the radar and said strict action will be taken if they do not desist.
