'Faiz Hameed's conviction is just beginning of a long accountability process,' says Faisal Vawda

Vawda warned that the ongoing May 9 trials could lead to a minimum 14-year sentence if proven.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Senator Faisal Vawda said on Thursday that the punishment handed to former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed marks only the beginning of a broader accountability process.
Speaking to a private news channel, Vawda stated that once the May 9 cases are fully adjudicated, serious consequences could follow for the political party involved. He claimed that the political group associated with Faiz Hameed during that period is already facing accountability, and “a foundation has now been laid that no individual is above Pakistan.”
Vawda warned that the ongoing May 9 trials could lead to a minimum 14-year sentence if proven, raising questions about “where the PTI and its founder will stand when the verdict is announced.”
Reflecting on his own expulsion from the party, he said he had repeatedly cautioned party leadership against actions that could lead to irreversible consequences. “I used to warn them that there would be no way back, but instead I was removed,” he remarked. “Now an accountability process has begun in the country, and this long pursuit of justice will continue. No one will be spared.”
He further stated that the case of slain journalist Arshad Sharif also remains unresolved, adding that “the day Murad Saeed appears, the characters behind that case will also come to light.”
