Saudi Chief of General Staff meets Pakistan’s top leaders to reinforce defence and security cooperation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – General Fayyadh Bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, Chief of General Staff of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held a series of high-level meetings in Islamabad today, reinforcing the longstanding defence and strategic partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
General Al-Ruwaili called on General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The discussions centred on the evolving global and regional security environment, with both sides exploring practical measures to deepen engagement between the armed forces.
During the meeting, CJCSC Mirza reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia and ensuring the protection of Harmain al-Sharifain. The visiting Saudi general praised the professionalism and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces in combating terrorism and acknowledged the CJCSC’s role in strengthening Pakistan-Saudi strategic relations.

Upon arrival, General Al-Ruwaili was received with a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent, presenting a Guard of Honour, underscoring the significance of the visit.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed General Al-Ruwaili at the PM House in Islamabad. The premier conveyed his best wishes to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to bolstering historic brotherly ties across economic, defence, and security sectors.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia pledge united fight against terrorism
Highlighting his recent visits to Riyadh, PM Sharif noted that these engagements culminated in the signing of a historic Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA). Both leaders emphasised the joint commitment to combating all forms of terrorism and extremism, reflecting the nations’ shared determination to contribute to regional peace and stability.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and senior officials from both countries, signalling the high-level strategic importance of the discussions.
The visit also included a formal call on Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The leaders discussed avenues for enhanced military collaboration, security cooperation, and counter-terrorism initiatives. General Al-Ruwaili laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and was received with a Guard of Honour, reflecting the mutual respect underpinning Saudi-Pakistani defence relations.
