WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - The US members of Congress have written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, commending her government’s “visionary initiatives” and reform agenda.
The letter was written by Congressmen Thomas R. Suozzi and Jack Bergman, both influential members of the US Congressional Pakistan Caucus.
Suozzi is known as a prominent voice on foreign policy in the US House of Representatives, while Bergman is a senior and influential member of the House’s Armed Services Committee.
Their letter is being interpreted as a significant policy signal regarding US–Pakistan relations.
The support from senior US lawmakers indicates that influential American policymakers consider the Punjab government’s steps to eliminate bonded labor as a potential global model.
The lawmakers praised the Punjab government’s bold decision to modernise the brick-kiln industry, noting that its environmental reforms and measures to end forced labor were commendable.

They said that the Punjab government’s new mechanised kiln model could become an example for the entire region.
Dr Rubina Bhatti briefed the Congressional Caucus on Punjab’s initiatives, after which US lawmakers noted that Punjab was moving in the right direction to meet its international obligations.
The letter stated that Punjab’s reforms would accelerate foreign investment, adding that a modernised system would make the province more attractive to US companies.
They added that Punjab could become a gateway for future economic cooperation.
US lawmakers added that the Punjab government’s vision could serve as a model for South Asia, help Pakistan comply with international laws, and restore human dignity.
They noted that these reforms could inject new energy into the Pakistan–US economic partnership.
