RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Rawalpindi police re-arrested former ADC Sialkot Iqbal Singhera, who had escaped police custody during his transfer from Rawalpindi to Lahore in a high-profile corruption case.
According to police sources, a special Rawalpindi police team successfully apprehended Singhera, who has now been transferred to Kot Lakhpat Jail. Three separate teams, all led and supervised by SP Anam Sher Khan of the Saddar Division, were deployed to secure the arrest. Singhera had fled on November 13 while being moved to Lahore following a hearing in the Anti-Corruption Court, Rawalpindi.
In connection with the escape, four police officials found negligent in their duties were terminated from service. Their mobile data has been seized to verify potential contacts with the accused. The Geo-fencing of the Chakri Rest Area, where the escape occurred, has also been completed. The police have sent requests to various excise offices to obtain vehicle registration details of the car used during the escape, while the National Highway Authority (NHA) has been contacted to trace which toll plaza the vehicle exited.
A case has been registered against Singhera, his brother, six unidentified accomplices, and the four negligent police officers. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the escape and any potential lapses in police protocol.
