Draft of 27th Amendment shared with coalition parties: Barrister Aqeel
Pakistan
Barrister Aqeel said that work on draft of 27th Amendment is ongoing, and consultation with coalition partners is essential, as a constitutional amendment cannot be passed without their participation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Minister of State for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik on Friday said that the working draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment has been shared with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and other coalition partners.
Speaking on Dunya News programme 'Tonight with Samar Abbas', Barrister Aqeel Malik said that work on the draft of the 27th Amendment is ongoing, and consultation with coalition partners is essential, as a constitutional amendment cannot be passed without their participation.
He said that the PPP is currently the major coalition partner, and the working draft has been shared with them as well as with other allied parties. Discussions have been held with various political parties regarding the amendment.
Barrister Aqeel further said that suggestions from coalition partners regarding the 27th Constitutional Amendment are being received. He recalled that the attitude of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during the 26th Amendment was no different — at that time, PTI had said it had no objections.
Barrister Aqeel added that PTI first reached an understanding with Maulana (Fazlur Rehman) and later delivered speeches in opposition. During the parliamentary session on the 26th Constitutional Amendment, PTI engaged in political point-scoring. PTI always tries to create obstacles in everything, he said.
