ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Government has decided discuss key points and initial outlines of the 27th Amendment with its coalition partners to seek their support for approval.

According to reliable sources, the Prime Minister is continuing consultations with allied parties regarding the proposed amendment. After discussions with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), it has been decided to reach out to MQM, PML-Q, IPP, ANP, and JUI-F as well.

The proposed amendment is expected to include changes to Article 243, which defines the command and control of the armed forces, removing protection for provinces’ share in the NFC and returning education and population planning to the federation.

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally requested the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to support the 27th Constitutional Amendment, according to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

In a statement released on social media, Bilawal said that a delegation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by the Prime Minister, met with President Asif Ali Zardari and him to discuss the amendment.

The proposed amendment includes the establishment of a constitutional court, provisions for the transfer of executive magistrates and judges, and the removal of provincial share protections under the NFC (National Finance Commission).

Bilawal further explained that the amendment seeks revisions to Article 243, the federal takeover of education and population planning, and a point about ending the stalemate regarding appointments to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
