He said that an indiscriminate operation is underway against encroachments along riverbanks
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Adviser to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information, Barrister Dr. Saif, has emphasized that protecting rivers has become inevitable in the wake of climate change.
In a statement, Barrister Saif said that an indiscriminate operation is underway against encroachments along riverbanks. He added that the Chief Minister has strictly directed all administrations to remove encroachments without any pressure, and the operation will continue until they are completely eliminated.
He stressed that such encroachments pose a threat to human lives and no compromise will be made in this regard. The recent floods, he said, caused major damage due to illegal structures along riverbanks and construction within water channels.
The provincial adviser further noted that amendments to the River Protection Act are also under consideration, aimed at strengthening rivers to withstand flood situations more effectively.
