LAHORE (Dunya News) – Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Thursday visited flood-affected areas of Punjab, including Nankana Sahib, and distributed food and ration among the victims.

During his visit, Khan reviewed the ongoing flood situation in various districts of Punjab including Jhelum, Chakwal, Hafizabad, Ravi, and Nankana Sahib, where thousands of acres of agricultural land have been submerged. The floods have also caused heavy losses to people’s lives and livestock.

He said that he has informed President Asif Ali Zardari about the flood situation in Punjab. The President has directed PPP leaders to continue visiting the flood-hit areas and provide all possible assistance. He added that in the coming days, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also visit the affected areas.

He demanded that electricity bills for six months in the flood-affected areas be waived and agricultural land taxes be exempted to facilitate farmers.

The Governor emphasized that all political parties must stand together with the flood victims, warning that anyone engaging in political point-scoring would be an enemy of the flood-stricken people. He assured that until the victims are able to return to their homes, “we will not rest.”

He further said that all departments of Punjab, machinery, and Pakistan Army units are working day and night to assist the flood victims and ensure that rescue and relief operations continue.
