UN delegation visits flood-affected areas in Sialkot

SIALKOT (Dunya News) - United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator to Pakistan, Mohamed Yahya, led an eight-member delegation to visit flood-affected areas in Sialkot on Sunday.
The delegation conducted a detailed assessment of the flood-affected areas during the visit and distributed rations, ready-to-eat food, and drinking water among the affected residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohamed Yahya expressed solidarity with the flood victims, stating that the United Nations stands firmly with the people of Pakistan during this difficult time.
He praised the rescue and relief efforts of the local administration and highlighted that the current flooding is a clear manifestation of climate change, which has severely impacted the Pakistan.
It is pertinent to mention here that flight operations at Sialkot International Airport remained completely suspended for the fourth consecutive day. On average, about ten to eleven international flights operate daily from Sialkot International Airport; however, flight arrivals and departures have been fully halted for the past four days.
Muhammad Umair Khan, spokesperson for Sialkot Airport, stated that the airport administration has been continuously working for the past four days to drain the floodwater through a self-help initiative. There is a concern that the suspension of flight operations may be extended further, he added.
Muhammad Umair Khan also mentioned that the district administration has also assured full support, and it is hoped that the floodwater will be completely drained soon.
