ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has hailed the launch of digital wallets under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as a major breakthrough, saying the move will pave the way for a cashless economy and help root out corruption.

Speaking at the ceremony in Islamabad to roll out digital wallets and free mobile SIMs for BISP beneficiaries, the prime minister congratulated the programme’s chairman, the BISP team, and all stakeholders for making it happen.

He praised Senator Rubina Khalid and the BISP secretary for their role, stressing that the programme plays a crucial part in tackling poverty and unemployment.

Shehbaz recalled that during the last Ramadan, BISP funds were disbursed digitally for the first time, calling it a turning point.

He added: “Digital wallets are a big step towards a cashless economy. The sooner we move in this direction, the faster the country will grow. It saves time, speeds up work, and helps stamp out corruption.”

The prime minister said BISP reflects the vision of the late Benazir Bhutto and added that her soul would find strength in the transparency of this initiative. Beneficiaries, he noted, will now be able to receive funds at their doorstep in a safe, simple, and modern way.
