KP senate by-election: CM–Opposition meeting fails, direct contest likely
Pakistan
The Senate seat will now see a direct contest between PTI and opposition candidates.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - The meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the opposition regarding the upcoming Senate by-election ended without any breakthrough, as no consensus was reached on an unopposed election.
According to sources, the Senate seat will now see a direct contest between PTI and opposition candidates.
The opposition leader attempted to secure the withdrawal of other nominees in favor of PML-N’s candidate Sobia Shahid, but the effort remained unsuccessful.
If other opposition candidates withdraw, the contest will likely be between PTI’s Mishal Yousafzai and PML-N’s Sobia Shahid, with PTI currently holding a numerical majority in the KP Assembly.
