CM Haji Gulbar Khan urges immediate Rs7 billion aid, declares region disaster-hit
GILGIT (Dunya News) - Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan has announced that recent floods and heavy rains caused around Rs20 billion in damages across the region.
The prvincial chief executive appealed for urgent financial assistance of Rs7 billion to begin recovery efforts.
Speaking at a press conference, CM Khan confirmed that 10 people have lost their lives due to the natural disaster. Vital infrastructure, including water supply systems, water channels, and telecommunications networks, has been destroyed.
He stated that approximately 22 kilometers of roads have also been washed away.
Communication restored on Babusar Road after flood disruption
CM Gulbar urged the federal government to officially declare Gilgit-Baltistan a disaster-hit area.
He shared that a letter has been sent to the Prime Minister requesting immediate support, while relief operations are actively ongoing in flood-affected regions.
