Pakistan, India DGMOs to meet on May 12

After four days of missile strikes and military posturing, India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire-brokered by a direct military call, not diplomacy, Indian officials clarified Saturday.

It was agreed that the directors general of military operations (DGMOs) of both countries would meet on May 12 for further talks on the matter.

Earlier, Pakistan launched Operation 'Bunyan-un-Marsoos' (Iron Wall) in response to Indian aggression and destroyed many military installations of the enemy.

Initial reports suggest Pakistan in its strikes destroyed Indian Brahmos missile depot in Beas, Pathankot airfield, and Adampur airbase.

Security sources said Pakistan’s missiles targeted Indian locations from where they (India) carried out attacks on innocent civilians and mosques in Pakistan.

Security sources revealed that the G-Top, the supply depot of the Indian brigade headquarters, Uri, had also been destroyed.

CONSTRUCTIVE TALKS

The United States offered assistance in constructive talks between Pakistan and India in order to avoid future conflicts.

The development came after Pakistan launched an operation in retaliation to Indian aggression. The Pakistani forces destroyed several military installation of India at different locations in a befitting response to the neighbouring country’s aggression.

US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said Secretary Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistani Army Chief Gen Asim Munir.

“He continued to urge both parties to find ways to de-escalate and offered U.S. assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts,” read the statement.

The US secretary of state also spoke with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and called for exercising patience.

Dar told the US official that the ball was now in India’s court. If India does not back down and further escalate the situation, Pakistan will definitely respond, he said.

The Foreign Office said Ishaq Dar and Marco Rubio discussed the current situation and agreed to maintain close contact.
