Chairman did not have authority to make unilateral decisions, says Barrister Gohar
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar emphasised the need for a unified stance against terrorism, stating that there should be no political point-scoring on the issue.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, he was asked about his changing stance regarding the National Security Committee meeting. A journalist inquired, "Yesterday, you stated that you would attend the meeting, but today you say otherwise?" Barrister Gohar responded, "Even as the chairman, I do not have the authority to make unilateral decisions. This is a party decision."
When pressed further on whether the party takes priority over Pakistan, he asserted, "There is no doubt that Pakistan comes first. However, the party had set conditions, including a meeting with the party’s founder. We had formally requested this meeting and are still pursuing it."
Addressing concerns that PTI often raises objections on matters of national security, Barrister Gohar dismissed such perceptions.
"There should be no division on terrorism. No politics should be played over it. The entire nation must stand united with a singular narrative. This is a cause for Pakistan, and if the country remains stable, everyone will be able to play their role."
When asked whether he considered the party's decision timely and appropriate, he maintained, "I cannot make personal decisions."
Upon further questioning on whether he personally believed the decision was correct, he simply stated, "Once the party makes a decision, I do not comment on it."
