Punjab decides to roll out development projects in major cities

The chief minister approved the mega plan for sewage and drainage systems
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has decided to launch a development programme to bring a new sewage and drainage system to all major cities of the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a special meeting to review ongoing projects in the province. The meeting also discussed the ongoing projects under the WATSAN framework.
The chief minister approved the mega plan for sewage and drainage systems and sought a plan for 189 cities with populations exceeding 100,000. According to the project, sewage, water drainage, rainwater disposal, street paving, and other development works will be carried out under this programme.
It is for the first time in history of Punjab that sewage bypasses and disposal stations will be constructed in cities. Storage tanks will also be built for the immediate disposal of rainwater. Stored water in these tanks will be used for irrigation and other purposes.
During the meeting, it was agreed to lay sewage and water supply pipelines at appropriate distances in cities to keep the clean water safe.
Additionally, roads with length of up to 30 kilometers will be constructed and renovated in each provincial constituency.
The proposal to build model villages in Punjab was also reviewed during the meeting. The chief minister approved the construction of model villages and issued immediate instructions for the implementation of the Punjab Development Program.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that the Clean Punjab Program will benefit the people of the province.
By creating a long-lasting and safe sewage system, roads will remain protected from damage and deterioration.
