ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the PML-N government put the country on the path of development after tireless efforts.

He was addressing a ceremony held in Islamabad to mark the one year of PML-N government.

The PML-N’s government was formed in the aftermath of Feb 8 elections.

“The country’s economy is set to take off following a year of dedicated efforts by the government’s economic team,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He said that the financial sector had overcome significant challenges and it is now on a path of sustained recovery and progress.

“Pakistan’s journey from darkness to light in just one year is the result of a collective effort,” the prime minister said.

He was of the view that the government successfully engaged with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to secure the $7 billion programme last year which prevented the country from default.

The prime minister paid rich tribute to the salaried class for contributing in the revenue collection by paying taxes.

Shehbaz Sharif said that the inflation has been reduced from 40pc to 2.4pc in January 2025, leading to a decline in the policy rate.

He urged the business community to support the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy, emphasizing that their involvement was crucial.

The prime minister said that he wanted to leave behind a legacy that set the country on the path of sustainable development.

He also expressed confidence that the government’s recently launched “Uraan Pakistan” programme would become successful and achieve all its set targets.

The ceremony was also addressed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.
