Woman involved in spreading fake news about private college sent on physical remand

LAHORE (Dunya News) – An anti-terrorism court on Friday approved six-day physical remand of a woman who was involved in spreading fake news about rape incident at a private college in Lahore by impersonating as alleged victim’s mother. 

ATC judge Arshad Javed conducted hearing of the case. The suspect, identified as Sara Khan, was produced in court by police. 

The judge ordered the police to produce the suspect in court on Nov 7 after completion of the physical remand. 

A day earlier, the Model Town CIA police arrested suspect Sara Khan from outside the Lahore High Court where she had showed up to get bail. 

A case was earlier registered against the suspect in the Gulberg police station under PECA.

SOCIAL MEDIA PROPAGANDA 

Sara Khan had shared a video on social media on Oct 18 claiming that she was the mother of alleged rape victim studying in a private college.

The suspect disseminated fake propaganda on social media and incited the public.

Sara Khan has been identified as a resident of Karachi. 

Earlier, police had declared the incident fake and fabricated. The DIG Operations Faisal Kamran had said that no complaint was registered in this specific case and students were being misled.

“We visited all the public and private sector hospitals of the city and couldn’t find any victim,” said the DIG Operations of Lahore Police.

A special team was also constituted on the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to investigate the incident. Addressing a press conference, chief minister also termed the incident fake and baseless.

She said that a propaganda was disseminated against the student on social media and therefore stern action should be taken against the perpetrators.

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) also gave its findings and declared that no such incident was reported. The JIT conducted interviews of 28 students before reaching the conclusion.

The JIT also met the girl admitted in the ICU and said that she got injured after she fell at her home.
