NORTH WAZIRISTAN (Dunya News) – Eight people, including four policemen and two army troops, were martyred in a suicide attack in an area of Mir Ali in North Waziristan on Saturday.
A senior police officer said a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden rickshaw into a joint checkpost of military and police. He said a military vehicle was also targeted in the attack.
The officer said five injured people had been shifted to Miranshah hospital where some of them are said to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati has condemned the attack as a cowardly attempt. He also expressed sorrow over death of security officials and citizens in the attack.
A day earlier, 10 soldiers of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) were martyred when terrorists launched a fierce attack on an FC checkpoint in Darazinda, Dera Ismail Khan.
The assault, executed under the cover of darkness, was a well-coordinated effort by militants who targeted the Zam FC checkpoint using heavy weaponry.
According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, the FC soldiers stood firm and courageously fought back, ultimately sacrificing their lives to protect the checkpoint and thwart the terrorists’ assault.
The Ministry of Interior spokesperson confirmed that 10 FC soldiers were martyred in the confrontation and three others suffered injuries.
Despite the overwhelming threat posed by the heavily armed attackers, the soldiers bravery prevented the terrorists from advancing further. “The martyred soldiers thwarted the terrorist attack on the checkpoint by laying down their lives,” the spokesperson said.
