Premier Shehbaz thanked parliamentarians for approving the amendment with a two-thirds majority
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that the 26th constitutional amendment open door to development and prosperity of Pakistan and help people get quick justice from courts.
Talking to his cabinet colleagues here, he thanked parliamentarians for approving the amendment with a two-thirds majority.
The amendment would prove to be a milestone for development, prosperity, economic and political stability of the country, he added.
The premier said that it took years for a common man to get justice from courts. Setting up of the constitutional bench would provide convenience to the common man, he stated.
He termed passage of the amendment “culmination of the efforts” of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif who signed a pact [Charter of Democracy] in 2006.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said all political leaders were consulted and after hectic efforts and long consultations on each clause, the draft of amendment was approved.
“I want to thank all those political leaders who helped me [in passage of the amendment]. My leader Nawaz Sharif guided me and supported me,” he continued.
The prime minister said he had detailed discussions with Maulana Fazlur Rahman. The leaders of the MQM, the ANP and all political parties were consulted on the amendment. The Senate passed the bill with 65 votes while the National Assembly with 225 votes, “for which I am grateful to everyone individually and collectively.”
Regarding the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, he was all praise for the security agencies.
"The SCO conference was a success as Pakistan Army provided full support," he added.
With the successful holding of the SCO conference, the image of Pakistan increased in the world. There were challenges in holding the conference, the biggest was terrorism, the prime minister said.
Talking about economy, he said that there was gradual improvement. The inflation has come down to 6.9 percent, and with collective efforts, “Pakistan will move forward.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz mentioned Israel’s barbarity in Gaza and Lebanon whose military has killed hundreds of thousands of unarmed Palestinians. He pledged moral and material support to Palestinian brethren.
