PPP names three MPs for parliamentary committee to appoint CJP

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Peoples Party on Monday proposed its three members for the parliamentary committee to appoint the chief justice. 

The PPP sent the names of its three parliamentarians for the powerful committee. 

The party nominated former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Syed Naveed Qamar and Farooq H. Naik for the parliamentary committee. 

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Syed Naveed Qamar would represent the National Assembly while Farooq H. Naik would represent the Senate in the committee. 

Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq sought recommendations from parliamentary leaders on committee members for the appointment of new chief justice of Pakistan.

The committee will consist of 12 members from the National Assembly and Senate. 

The Ministry of Law would recommend a panel consisting of three senior judges after the formation of the committee. 

The committee would select CJP from the panel of judges.
