ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has rejected a petition for a recount and allegations of bias against returning officers in the PB-14 constituency.
The petition was filed by Ghulam Rasool of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), challenging the victory of Mahmood Khan from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The case involved a request to recount votes from seven out of 96 polling stations.
The chief justice asked the petitioner’s lawyer how they determined the results were incorrect. The lawyer claimed discrepancies with Form-45 and alleged that officers were biased.
In response, the CJP emphasised the most important evidence in elections was the votes, not Form 45, which was filled out by the presiding officers, observing the form held no significance.
The court ruled without concrete evidences of bias or misconduct, the election results must stand. As a result, the Supreme Court upheld Mahmood Khan’s victory and dismissed the petition.
