US wants freedom of expression, promotion of democracy in Pakistan: Ambassador Blome

LAHORE - American Ambassador in Pakistan Donald Blome on Friday said the US wants freedom of expression and democracy to be promoted in Pakistan, adding that Pak-US relations are on the way to improvement. 

The US is working with Pakistan to deal with the challenges faced by the country including climate change and security situation. 

A special ceremony was held in Lahore on the occasion of American Independence Day, which is also known as the Fourth of July, at the American Consulate.

American Ambassador Donald Blome, Consul General Lahore Kirsten K. Hawkins, Strategic Communication Specialist American Consulate Rida Rashid were present in the ceremony. 

A number of people including politicians, religious scholars, journalists, lawyers and other personalities from various fields of life attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the American Independence Day ceremony held at the residence of the American Consul General in Lahore, US Ambassador Donald Blome said that Pakistan-US relations are on the way to improvement. US companies are providing job opportunities to Pakistanis. America is working with Pakistan on issues like climate change and security situation.

Donald Blome said that the US is promoting various projects in Pakistan and especially in Punjab. We want strong relations between Pakistan and America. Actions are being taken to solve various issues including green agriculture, security between Pakistan and America. We are also taking steps on health, education and women's rights together.

Donald Blome said that civil society has a key role in any democracy. The civil society also play a key role in protecting the rights of women and the environment.
