PPP's Ali Qasim Gilani secures victory in NA-148 by-polls

MULTAN (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Ali Qasim Gilani won the by-elections in NA-148, Multan on Sunday.
Ali Qasim Gilani, son of Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, got 83,250 votes while Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate Taimur Malik Altaf managed to secure 51,572 votes.
Earlier, polling was started at 8:00am and concluded at 5:00pm without any break.
Twelve candidates belonging to various political parties took part in polls to win the seat vacated following the resignation of Senator Yousuf Raza Gilani who took oath as the Senate Chairman.
The candidates received nomination papers from the office of Returning Officer Muhammad Saif of NA-148 include Taimur Altaf Malik, Ali Qasim Gilani, son of Yusuf Raza Gilani, Khalid Javed Waraich, Ahmed Hussain Dehr, Muhammad Atif Imran, Rubeena Akhtar, Saqib Mahmood Mahay, Rana Jang Sher Ali, Azhar Ahmed Sandila, Jamshed Abbas Bapi, Rana Ameeq and Amjad Hussain.
In Feb 8 elections, Ahmed Hussain Dehr on PML-N’s ticket had polled 57,989 votes.
The total number of voters in the constituency is 444,231, of which 233,624 are male and 210,607 are female.
According to the ECP, 275 polling stations have been set up in the constituency, 72 polling stations have been allocated for women and 72 for men, while 131 joint polling stations. The ECP has declared 69 of the polling stations as sensitive.
According to police. 3,800 personnel performed security duties.
