ISLAMABAD (Dunya News/Web Desk) – Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Saturday said live telecast of case proceedings at the Supreme Court would enable an ordinary citizen to watch delivery of justice and bring more transparency to the system.

Addressing a ceremony at the Federal Judicial Academy, the chief justice said those studying law could greatly help themselves by watching the court hearings, as he highlighted the importance of technology being an effective tool to access knowledge.

Use of technology has also saved previous sources, he said – a reference to the projects launched in Punjab and other regions.

Chief Justice Isa stressed the need for restoring common man’s trust that justice is delivered and recalled that he first ordered live transmission of Practice and Procedure Act case after assuming his office.

“Justice should not only be delivered but also seen,” the chief justice said and urged the audience to treat all the parties equally.

He regretted the court staff previously didn’t get the importance which they deserve. However, the Supreme Court staff would now receive training at the Federal Judicial Academy.

Pakistan’s top judge praised Supreme Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah for introducing changes in the academy where training is imparted to judges under various phases.

He reminded the audience that the civil judges are the first in judiciary to be faced by the applicants. Better trained civil judges would lessen the burden of cases on courts, the chief justice noted.

The comments about transparency and trust came as there has been severe criticism of top judiciary in the past over “judicial activism” and the role played in removing the elected prime ministers while strengthening dictators.
