Admiral Naveed Ashraf takes charge as Chief of Naval Staff

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Admiral Naveed Ashraf took charge as Chief of Naval Staff on Saturday to replace his predecessor Amjad Khan Niazi at a change of command ceremony held in Islamabad.
As Admiral (retd) Niazi handed over command to Admiral Ashraf, a guard of honour was presented to the new naval chief. He is now the 23rd chief to lead the Pakistan Navy.
Admiral Ashraf got commission in the Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1989. He is a graduate of National Defense University Islamabad, US Naval War College and UK's Royal College of Defense Studies.
He has a vast experience of working in key command and staff positions and was previously serving as the Chief of Staff at the Naval Headquarters. Previously, he commanded the Pakistan Navy Fleet and Pakistan Naval Academy.
In recognition of his exceptional professional services, the naval admiral has also been awarded with Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-i-Basalat.
Speaking on the occasion, Admiral (retd) Niazi congratulated the new naval chief and noted the changes witnessed in the region during the recent years. He listed introduction of latest technology like the artificial intelligence as a prerequisite to face the challenges of modern warfare.
He also stated that the country needed to counter the traditional and non-conventional threats as well as non-state actors and sub-national groups, adding that extremism was on the rise in India.
