Polling on 63 Sindh LG seats concludes, vote count under way

Over 7,000 police personnel deployed for security
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The polling for by-elections on 63 local government seats in 26 districts of Sindh, which were postponed due to the death of candidates, has been completed. The polling process started on Sunday at 8:00 am and continued until 5:00 pm without any break. The counting of votes is currently underway.
Polling was held for 26 seats of 11 UCs and 15 wards in seven Karachi districts, while in the remaining 19 districts of Sindh, the election was held on 37 seats.
To ensure the security of voters and polling stations, more than 7,000 police personnel were deployed in Karachi. 292 polling stations in 26 districts were declared highly sensitive and 157 sensitive.
In Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Nawabshah, Sanghar, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, and Jamshoro, polling was held on one seat each, while in Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Badin, and Sajawal, polling was held on two seats each. Three seats each in Noushahro Feroz, Dadu, and Thatta, and ten seats in Hyderabad were also up for election.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had set up a central control room in Islamabad to monitor the local government by-elections held in 24 districts of Sindh. The control room started functioning on Sunday and continued uninterrupted operations until the last result was received.
According to an ECP spokesman, senior officers monitored the election process from the control room, and the Control Room was in constant touch with district monitoring officers and monitoring teams in Sindh.
The control room was responsible for addressing any polling-related complaints that may have arisen during the elections. Complaints could be lodged round the clock via telephone, fax, or email.
The establishment of the central control room was a proactive measure taken by the ECP to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the local government elections in Sindh.
It should be remembered that the by-elections were held due to the death of candidates for the seats of member district council, chairman, vice chairman, and general council.
