Chairman NAB says PM barred him from appearing before all parliamentary committees
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Javed Iqbal claimed on Thursday that PM Imran Khan barred him from appearing before all parliamentary committees, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
As per the details, the NAB chief did not attend an in-camera session of the PAC which was scheduled to be held today (Thursday) under the chairmanship of Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Rana Tanveer Hussain.
Addressing the media, PTI MNA Noor Alam Khan said that the in-camera meeting was convened on the request of the NAB chairman. The letter on the decision of change in Principal Accounting Officer was sent suddenly. He further added that it was written in the letter that PM and cabinet have given its approval on the decision.
Taking to Twitter, Sherry Rehman added that “all members across the board with consensus found this unacceptable and advised the Chair PAC to terminate the meeting”. She further stated that “no one is above the law”.

On the other hand, the reason behind Chairman NAB’s absence was revealed. NAB wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Assembly declaring that Prime Minster of Pakistan had approved the presence of Director General (DG) NAB before the committees. Moreover, in the letter it was stated that Chairman NAB will not appear before any standing committee, constitutional body or autonomous body as Principal Accounting Officer.
Earlier on Dec 31, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (Red) Javed Iqbal said the eradication of corruption from the country has become the voice of the whole nation right now.
He had expressed these views while addressing a function held at NAB headquarters. Javed Iqbal distributed merit certificates on behalf of President Dr. Arif Alvi for outstanding performance among NAB officers and personnel.
The ceremony was attended by NAB Deputy Chairman Zahir Shah, Director General Headquarters Hasnain Ahmed and other senior officials.
The chairman said NAB was committed to take action against the corrupt elements without any discrimination, adding, the bureau had been made an active institution for the eradication of corruption.
The NAB has directly and indirectly recovered Rs 541 billion from corrupt elements during the last four years which was a remarkable achievement.
The chairman said that eradication of corruption from the country has become the voice of the whole nation. NAB has been made a dynamic body to take action against corrupt elements without any discrimination.
