No evidence Biden administration advisor Neera Tanden tweeted in support of Hitler

A White House official said in an email that Neera Tanden did not post this tweet

(Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden’s domestic policy adviser Neera Tanden did not post a tweet crediting Hitler for fighting communism. A screenshot carrying the purported tweet, which reads “Hitler was certainly controversial, but nobody gives him proper credit for fighting to the death against Communism,” appears to have been fabricated.

A White House official said in an email that Neera Tanden did not post this tweet.

Social media users shared the screenshot on Facebook and Twitter while claiming, “This is a real tweet from Biden's new domestic policy adviser, Neera Tanden.” Examples can be seen (here), (here) and (here).

The tweet appears to stem from the account @neeratanden and bears the timestamp “7:34pm – 22 Aug 2016.”

There is no evidence that Neera Tanden posted such a tweet using her personal Twitter handle in August 2016.

An advanced Twitter search for tweets from @neeratanden with ‘Hitler’ produced no results (bit.ly/41nkdCt).

If the tweet had really been posted and deleted, there would likely be some interaction and response tweets to Tanden still online. Yet a separate search for tweets using the word ‘Hitler’ and mentioning or replying @NeeraTanden also produced no results between Aug. 20-24, 2016 (bit.ly/3I1VQmW).

The likely fabrication has been circulating since at least 2020 (here).

The false claims were shared just days after the White House announced that Biden had picked Tanden, a senior aide in the administration, to replace Susan Rice as his domestic policy adviser (here).

VERDICT

No evidence. There is no evidence Neera Tanden tweeted praising Hitler for fighting communism.
